ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jeremiah Burroughs was an English Puritan minister and one of the "Dissenting Brethren" at the Westminster Assembly, where he argued for a congregationalist form of church government. Educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, he was silenced from preaching for his Nonconformist convictions and spent several years in exile in the Netherlands before returning to pastor in London.
Known as "the morning star of Stepney" for his gentle, joyful preaching, Burroughs left behind sermons on contentment, hope, and the nature of sin that remain classics of Puritan practical divinity.
