Richard Sibbes

Richard Sibbes was an English Puritan preacher and theologian who served as preacher at Gray's Inn, London, and as Master of St. Catharine's College, Cambridge. Unlike many Puritans of his day, Sibbes remained within the established Church of England while quietly nurturing a generation of Puritan pastors.

Nicknamed "the heavenly Doctor Sibbes" for the tender, Christ-exalting comfort of his preaching, he had a profound influence on later Puritan and evangelical writers, including Richard Baxter and, centuries later, the Welsh preacher Martyn Lloyd-Jones.
