Thomas Boston was a Scottish minister who served most of his ministry in the rural parish of Ettrick in the Scottish Borders. Though his congregation was small, his writing reached far beyond it, and he became one of the most respected pastoral theologians of the Scottish church.
Boston is remembered for his deep pastoral sensitivity to affliction and providence, most notably in The Crook in the Lot, and for his role in the "Marrow Controversy," a debate over grace and the free offer of the gospel in the Church of Scotland.
